What Is Double Eyelid Surgery

Asian Blepharoplasty

Conversion of monolid to a double eyelid by creating an upper-eyelid crease is referred to as double eyelid surgery, which is done basically to uneven eyes and eyes which gives a very sleepy appearance. It is also known as Asian Blepharoplasty, which is not a painful surgery. Most Asian descents are born without a defined eyelid crease. Full Incision technique and non-incision or suture technique are the two main techniques to achieve double eyelid crease. Local anesthesia is used to perform double eyelid surgery (ทำตา2ชั้น, which is the term in Thai) as a result, it is considered as one of the safest plastic surgeries.

Full Incision Technique

Ptosis can be corrected by performing this technique. To make the eyes appear larger and more awake, the crease is added to the upper eyelid.  The crease is formed because of the scar. By performing particular changes to muscle, appearance and eyelids function can be improved. At the eyelid an incision is made to remove or redistribute fat, then the skin is closed with stitches after the underlying excess muscle is removed, then a double eyelid is created.

Non-Incision Technique

After the incisional surgery, if the crease is not developed non-incisional surgery will be performed. Positioning a permanent suture within the eyelid can be done by performing a non-incision technique.  This creates a connection between the levator muscle in the skin. No scars are visible on the inner corner of the eyes. Incisions should be kept lubricated. To dwindle swelling, cold compresses should be placed. Inflammation and circulation are responsible for swelling. Crease looks much higher than the actual position of the crease because of swelling.  To avoid the eyes from drying, eye drops should be used. It may be incisional or non-incisional surgery; the only function is to connect the skin to the muscle. skin grafting is necessary if too much skin is removed.

There is no age limit in double eyelid surgery as long as you are healthy and able to meet surgical criteria. As the dissections and skin removal are not involved in the non-incision technique, it has a faster recovery compared to the full incision technique. Here the eyelids become more engrossing and clearer, vision is improved, heavy eyelids are disappeared, facial harmony is ameliorated, migraines are reduced and they can sparkle. This surgery creates natural-looking creases, upper eyelid puffiness is reduced and upper eyelashes are exposed.
