JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant DEPARTMENT: Finance
FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Controller

Summary:
Reporting to the Controller, the incumbent supports the total accounting function for the company by performing higher-level accounting duties such as financial reporting and auditing financial statements, as well as carrying out more routine functions such as processing accounts receivable/payable transactions. In addition, the job holder acts as lead person for the Finance Department in the Controller’s absence.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions:
Recordkeeping, Reporting & Administration (55%)
Assist Controller with administrative duties such as daily truncating/depositing customer checks, mailing invoices and correspondence, and completing Uniform Sales and Use Tax Certificates
Record check payments from customers in enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, under proper work orders
Make adjustments to work orders in ERP system to correct billing errors and rectify customer charge complaints
Assist Controller in preparation and deposit of sales, use, Federal Excise Tax (FET), and corporate taxes
Assist Controller in preparation of management reports
Prepare monthly journal entries and accruals
Receivables & Payables Processing (25%)
Monitor, collect and report accounts receivables to management
Prepare and distribute payments to vendors at regularly specified intervals
Make refund payments to customers in settlement of credit memo requests
Enter customer and vendor payables and payments in ERP system
Monitor accounts receivable and payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of bills distributed and payments received, including performing reconciliations and making necessary account adjustments
Auditing & Evaluation (10%)
Calculate profits and losses by auditing financial statements for given time periods
Assemble and provide necessary documentation to external auditors in preparation of annual corporate audit
Evaluate procedures and naming conventions used for data entry into computer systems, and recommend changes to improve accuracy, completeness, and consistency of records
Acting Leadership (5%)
Oversee day-to-day work activities of Finance Department staff in Controller’s absence
Issue special work assignments in behalf of Controller
Train and provide lead work direction and guidance to team members
Inspect work performed by Finance staff to ensure duties are carried out with accuracy and timeliness
Provide feedback to Controller on work related issues involving Finance staff, including those that might lead to disciplinary actions
Verify staff time cards for payroll and approve/deny time off request based on departmental needs
Competencies:
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, and communicate effectively in written and oral form
Excellent knowledge of accounting processes (e.g., budgeting and financial closure)
Ability to analyze and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations
Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills including those required for using pivot tables, v look-ups, sum-if’s, spreadsheet linking, and nesting functions, and to construct financial models/reports
Adept at dealing with ambiguity

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or two (2) years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ERP software experience, and advanced Excel spreadsheet skills
