What’s the job?

The Panels Controller will be in charge of controlling at L’Anse, MI plant as well as oversee the plant controller for the Plymouth, WI plant. The role is a key member of the L’Anse plant’s leadership team and expected to take an active role in helping define and execute the site’s strategic initiatives. The position’s responsibilities include providing operational & financial reports along with added value analyses regarding the plant operating results. This position ensures that corporate and group financial procedures are followed and internal controls area in place and maintained. The incumbent makes recommendations for profitability improvements and ensures that proper controls are utilized to protect the company’s assets.

This position reports to the Controller for CT Architectural Business Unit.

L’Anse Plant Controlling Responsibilities

Manage timely completion of month-end financial close
Analyze/reconcile accounts to ensure the balance sheet and costs are properly stated
Prepare and enter adjusting journal entries
Prepare and analyze monthly operating cost variances to standard, prior month, prior year and provide meaningful commentary
Maintain proper spending controls
Lead and direct budgeting process at plant
Lead and direct annual standard cost roll at plant for manufactured products
Ensure compliance with SGC, CertainTeed and Ceilings division policies and internal controls
Monitor/facilitate Capex project completions and fixed asset capitalizations/retirements
Support the development and implementation of policies
Travel and support to other sites required (~up to 15% of time)
Ensure internal controls are implemented and followed
Manage a direct report (Plant Controller – Plymouth, WI site)
Identify and track cost saving opportunities

Analytical business performance support

Support plant management team through meaningful analysis of costs and trends.
Develop and improve of plant internal reporting
Challenge financial performance results, identify issues and proactively initiate analyses and solutions to business issues
Identify (e.g. via cost deployment) and track cost savings opportunities
Support rolling 3 month forecasts and full year quarterly forecast

Key Responsibilities for Overseeing Plant Controller

Manage (remote) plant controller at Plymouth and ensure financial accuracy and timeliness of close, analyses & reporting
Ensure that plant is following internal controls and procedures.
Ensure controller is a true partner to Plant leadership and full engaged in improving plant performance

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA, CMA or MBA preferable or equivalent
MBA degree in Finance or CMA preferred
Minimum of 7+ years of related business experience. Strong emphasis should be put on experience in these areas: budgeting and forecasting in a manufacturing environment; analysis of operating results;
Understanding of GAAP or IAS, costs & inventory accounting, fixed assets
SAP experience a plus; Ability to handle and understand multiple IT platforms.
Experienced user of Microsoft Windows software. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
