The Financial Compliance and Tax Manager is responsible for performing duties associated with preparing and maintaining financial compliance and tax records, returns, reports and other related materials. This individual will prepare reports and presentations for management, investor reporting, for a portfolio of multifamily properties.
This is a corporate position based out of our corporate office in Woburn, MA.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Tax Reporting
First level review of annual federal and state tax returns prepared by CPAs. Compare results to expectations. Explain significant changes.
Track state tax filing requirements
Prepare miscellaneous tax returns
Document compliance with tax filing requirements
Manage tax notice resolution
Calculate/review estimated tax payments/withholdings
Create, model & maintain tax allocation spreadsheets Federal & State – quarterly
Update valuations – quarterly
Prepare internal 1099s, 1098s or other forms for owners and internal entities
Review and submit 1099 submission to IRS.
Continue to maintain proficiency in compliance and tax requirements.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and supplemental distributions as directed by owners, asset managers or CFO.
Create, model & maintain excel and other files on a large portfolio of assets that will require periodic updates, changes in market assumptions and adjustments to operating expenses, capital disbursements, leverage analysis and other income.
Formulate and update monthly and quarterly reporting packages on financial results as well as other ad hoc reports.
Understand and master a multitude of financial systems and processes and provide support as needed including standardized reporting and analysis of results across a portfolio.
Perform various property valuation and investment return analysis, including buy/sell/hold and refinancing feasibility.
Provide analytical support on new acquisition and development opportunities. Prepares reports, analyses and other documents as needed.
Prepare/ensure annual reporting and certifications to lenders and regulatory authorities completed and ensure compliance.
Support monthly reporting processes which include operating metrics, variance reporting, cash forecasting, and capital expenditures.
Recognize and highlight key operating trends and assist in the preparation of quarterly financial operating results commentary for ownership.
Summarize key information relating to new acquisitions/developments to communicate to Accounting/Property Management. Document periodic filing requirements from lenders, owners and other documents.
Coordinate implementation of quarterly financial reporting to owners/investors through an electronic investor portal.
Prepare quarterly financial report to investors as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting required.
A minimum of 5 years combined work experience in the public accounting and finance and/or real estate industries.
Preferred experience may include real estate tax, multifamily, debt underwriting, asset management, due diligence or financial compliance and reporting.
Prior experience with financial compliance, tax preparation and/or review, budgeting/forecasting and underlying derivers of operational, financial and cash flow performance also preferred.
A strong work ethic, the strength to thrive in a dynamic and demanding work environment, and an ability to meet critical deadlines.
Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to make confident business decisions under tight deadlines.
Strong detail orientation.
Exceptional analytical skills with a mastery of Excel.
Solid accounting and finance knowledge
Ability to communicate, both verbal and written, with all levels of management.
Preferred:
Prior experience with financial compliance, tax preparation and/or review, budgeting/forecasting and underlying derivers of operational, financial and cash flow performance
Ability to develop accurate explanations for trends and succinctly communicate such trends and recommendations.
Multifamily operating system experience is preferred
