| Job Description : | Summary: The Cost Accountant is a key role within the Pricing and Plant Accounting department, which is responsible for providing a wide range of financial analysis to support the organization. As a member of the Finance team, the Cost Accountant will assist in providing valuable analytical support to Sales and other teams to make informed business decisions and help maintain the day-to-day duties of maintaining the SAP, Pricefx, and pricing systems with accurate data. The Cost Accountant will also assist in providing a variety of reports and analysis for Plant Management. On a frequent basis, the Cost Accountant will interact with a wide variety of departments including Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Customer Service, Cost Accounting, Sourcing and Accounts Receivable.Essential FunctionsSupport the Price quoting process using the Pricing System and Pricefx. As necessary, prepare, analyze and publish accurate margin analyses for Sales, Marketing and Executive Management. Follow up on Pricing quotes with Sales Team to determine final outcome (won, lost, etc.)Prepare various Price Book Analyses requestsPrepare price comparison analyses including pricing of similar products, previous prices, prices of lost business, etc.Provide pricing and product costing support on customer bidsAnalyze and review manufacturing and purchase price variancesAssist in establishing costs for new productsMonth end closing responsibilitiesReview of monthly overhead spending, analyze trends and explain variances to budgetAssist in the preparation of yearly budget. Assist in the development of raw material, labor and OH standards.Analyze capital project spend and report on variances to planWork with Project Management team on cost development of potential new items to provide insights into price settingPerform ad hoc analysis and reporting for special requestsAssist on market price initiatives based upon commodity fluctuationsAs requested, incorporate major cost breakdown into margin analyses. At times, building dynamic cost functionality for cost modeling for major raw material fluctuations.Assume the role of Functional Power User and “go-to” person for Pricing when Manager is not available.Develop, document and analyze product costs using bills of materialsProvide analytical support for various departments as requested: Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Operations, Customer Service, Cost Accounting, Sourcing and Accounts Receivable.Assist with providing weekly and monthly reporting on all price changesOther ad hoc tasks which could include preparing month end closing reports, and assisting with forecasting and budgetingEducation/Experience RequirementsB.S. degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance, Economics or relatedSAP and PriceFx experience nice to have but not required. We are willing to train someone who is highly motivated.Competencies: Must have an understanding of cost accounting (product costing)Good overall system skills required.Excel: Superior excel skills required including working knowledge of pivot tables, advanced formulas, and VBA to be able to create useful financial analyses. Previous experience with creating and manipulating large amounts of data.Strong analytical abilities and research skillsSelf-starter and team orientedExceptional communication skills to convey quantitative results at all levelsAbility to work independently and adhere to fluctuating deadlinesAbility to communicate effectively and work well with various other departments within the companyStrong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities/projectsStrong attention to detailStrong verbal and written communication skills.
