||Position Summary: Our Controller is responsible for performing day‐to‐day accounting and company payroll activities requiring a general understanding of business processes and the ability to investigate and explain variances in business results from period to period. The role will participate in the month end financial statement closing process and will prepare internal and external financial reports.Responsibilities and Duties: Perform general accounting activities requiring general insight and depth of understanding.Familiarization with generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP).Prepare journal entries, reconcile account balances, month end reconciliations, and other operational duties as assigned.Assist leadership in accounting analysis, forecasting, and budgeting activities.Assist in preparation of internal and external financial statements, support external reporting process.Maintains payroll information by designing systems, directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data.Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/division transfers.Pays employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts.Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner.Required Education & Experience: Minimum Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll and accounting industry.Proven analytic and problem-solving skills.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Detail-oriented and thorough with desire for greatest degree of accuracy.Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities with the ability to prioritize.Proficient in computer skills including QuickBooks and Paylocity (preferred).Positive attitude and professional appearance and demeanor.Ability to communicate and work well with company leadership.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Competencies: Accounting/Financial Management.Strong Excel skills preferred.Ethical Conduct.Attention to detail.Strong Communications and Teamwork skills.Managing Processes.People Management.Compensation and Wage Structure.Benefits Administration.Worker Compensation.Employment Law.Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.This is a full-time exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST.
