| Job Description : | Aspen Group, Inc is an education technology holding company that leverages its infrastructure and expertise to allow its two universities, Aspen University and United States University, to deliver on the vision of making college affordable again.Aspen University is currently seeking a full-time Accounting Manager to join our amazing Finance team in New York City or Tampa, Fl.Position Description: This is an opportunity for a strong accountant who is looking for personal and professional growth in a dynamic organization that values competence, professionalism and problem-solving curiosity. Reporting to the Vice President of Accounting and Financial Reporting this role will have responsibility for the Company’s day-to-day accounting function including the monthly close process, preparation of financial statements, internal and SEC reporting and maintenance of the general ledger and reporting systems.Essential Functions: Ensure an accurate and timely reporting of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial information.Maintain the Company’s ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory requirements.Assist with preparing the company’s quarterly 10Q and annual 10K SEC reports and schedules in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.Perform month-end accounting activities such as reconciliations and journal entries.Develop and maintain reconciliation schedules, month end closing checklists, finance metrics and research variances.Improve operating effectiveness of the Accounting department by improving processes and systems where necessary, cross-training staff to mitigate dependencies and developing the team.Develop Internal Control policies and compliance in accordance with GAAP; periodically review and improve existing control processes.Research accounting guidance and draft memos as needed.Provide support for the annual Financial Statement Audit with our outside auditors in a timely and accurate manner.Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.Perform other duties as assigned.Position Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting or similar field, CPA preferred.A minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting, including at least 3 years working as an auditor for a public accounting firm.Experience at a publicly traded company preparing 10Q and 10K SEC reports and supporting schedules preferred.Education industry experience is a plus.Knowledge of Revenue Recognition and allowance for loan loss accounting preferred.Strong general ledger systems experience, QuickBooks preferred.Experience using Workiva SEC reporting software preferred.Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.Highly organized and proactive with strong attention to detail.Hands-on approach to getting the work done with strong problem-solving skills.Ability to work well with others and promote a positive working environment.Successful characteristics and competencies: Highly motivated manager who is detail oriented, meticulous and possesses a high level of business insight and technical skills.Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and impact business results across teams.Collaborative and able to build consensus and lead meetings across cross-functional teams while challenging assumptions in a relevant way.At Aspen Group, we embrace diversity, we support it, we celebrate it and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees and our community.
