Nowadays, virtually everyone has access to a camera on their smartphone. The quality of photos is getting better and even comparable to those made with professional cameras. No wonder we photograph more and more often. Every day, new photo contests are announced, in which you can win very interesting prizes. However, is it worth participating in them?
Year by year, photo contests are becoming more and more popular. The prizes that can be won are sometimes very valuable. That is why many people wonder if they have a chance to win them. The simplest answer is yes!
Since prizes are funded, winners must also be selected. However, in order for you to be one of them, you need to be well prepared.
1) Type of competition
The first step should be to choose the right photo contest you want to enter. They are usually divided into:
- competitions for professionals
- competitions for amateurs
So what is your experience? Are your photographs of a really high standard or are you taking photos only as a hobby? Or maybe you are a photographer by profession?
Answering these questions honestly will allow you to make the right choice. If you don’t have too much experience, forget about competitions addressed to professionals for now.
Photo contests for amateurs are also very interesting. Many of them take place on social media channels (Instagram, Facebook etc.)
2) Awards
The second important factor worth paying attention to are rewards. It is not worth taking part in the competition if the prizes are not attractive to you. So check out the competition page and see what you can win.
The number of funded prizes is also important. If there is only one prize then you have to take into account that the chances of winning are minimal.
3) Regulations
Be sure to check the rules of the competition to make sure that you can participate at all. Many photo contests have strict limits. These can be, for example:
- Domicile
- Age of participants
- Status (professional or amateur)
So it is very important to meet all the requirements. You don’t want to be disqualified, do you? In many countries you will find contest aggregators that show all the current competitions taking place in a given country. For example, in Poland it is Fajnekonkursy.pl
4) Theme of the competition
Another important factor is the subject of the competition entry. It will be much easier for you to prepare an decent competition entry if it is something you are interested in. Remember that participating in photo contests should first and foremost be fun and a way to gain experience.
So choose contests with topics that will be interesting for you. This way you will spend some time in a nice way and maybe even win an interesting prize!
